Help us fundraise to build a new hedgehog hospital :
The Hedgehog Nest
We need a bigger home. When we moved to our current home we were admitting 300 hedgehogs every year. We are now taking in over 500 sick and injured hedgehogs or ophaned hoglets each year and need more space. We also need to ensure our volunteers have the facilities they need to care for the hedgehogs. With your help we can build a bespoke wildlife hospital that will meet our needs for the next ten years and beyond.
Hedgehog rescues locally are at capacity

Hedgehogs are vulnerable to extinction in the UK[1] and hedgehog rescues are inundated with sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs. This year four of the hedgehog rescues, including a large RSPCA centre were full of hedgehogs and unable to take further admissions.
Any hedgehogs that we are unable to admit are likely to be euthanised by a vet as they are unable to release unhealthy animals. Animals that could be saved and rehabilitated with time and care will not survive without the hedgehog rescue. At Wild Hogs Hedgehog Rescue, we too have been stretched to capacity, even though we added additional set of cages, divided existing ones into two and rearranged the rescue to enable us to take in more admissions. Our volunteers have stepped up to cover more shifts, but we now have no more space to expand, even though there is a need for more places.
Creating a safe environment
We need to create and manage a quarantine room for new admissions to ensure hedgehogs don't pass infections to each other.
At the moment our quarantine hutches are next to in-patient cages. We don't have the space to separate them. We take hygiene extremely seriously and take steps to ensure the safety of our patients, volunteers and the public.

Improving the working space
Our office is in a cupboard. We don't have space for our volunteers to sit down for a coffee break or to meet new volunteers.
Supporting our volunteers
Our volunteer area is in an unused toilet! We want to be able to have a place for our volunteers to make a drink and have a break during shifts.

Creating a welcoming reception
We don't have a place for finders to bring in admissions. They have to hover in the doorway. We would like to create a welcome reception area with leaflets and information available to the public.

Our Plans
Our project is to convert a farm outbuilding into a bigger, improved hedgehog rescue with a separate room for our, reception and volunteer space. We currently rent a smaller unit on the same site and need to create a bespoke wildlife hospital that will provide care for more sick and injured hedgehogs ensuring we save all we can from extinction.

We have already raised £30,000 for the buildling work but need to raise a further £10,000 to install a toilet and plumbing to the rescue.
